Max is a friendly character who has made a few sparse appearances throughout Johnisdead. When players first encountered him, Max had been fused with Ben and transformed into the entity known as Drowned. As Drowned, Max assisted SKM - a hacker who was unknowingly his brother. In recent years, it appears as though Max is no longer fused with Ben after being used as Tenebris's conduit throughout The Truth Arc. He now seems to operate a mysterious YouTube channel called Quiet Family.
Story
Max was raised in Europe with his brother SKM. Not much is known about his early childhood. In 2011, he and his brother took a trip to the United States to visit their grandparents in Florida. Around this time, Max was an avid user of Within Hubris, where he would often claim he spoke to BEN. At the time, SKM mostly wrote this behavior off as fake internet roleplaying. However, tragedy struck when Max was abducted by Patrem in a local Florida park. Shortly after his abduction, Max was Ascended.
At some point, Max's spirit fused with Ben's, who was currently being used as Tenebris's conduit. This resulted in the two of them transforming into an entity named Drowned. Drowned was used as Tenebris's conduit up until Undecim Nocte 2011, when Kevin's ascension went awry. Drowned used this opportunity to escape, managing to travel and enter into SKM's computer. Since Max's disappearance, SKM was investigating the Lunar Children and attempting to track them down. It wasn't until Drowned entered into his computer and gave him the coordinates to the Fishery that he got any true leads, however.
From this point forward, Drowned and SKM were a team. Ironically, while SKM was searching for his brother, he had no idea he was actually working alongside him via Drowned. In 2015, SKM and Drowned made contact with the players. Though Drowned often had difficulty communicating clearly, he was still a valuable ally. SKM and Drowned were currently being hunted down by Regiminis, who wished to capture and trade them away to Tenebris in exchange for John. While the two of them managed to evade him throughout most of 2015, they were eventually caught in March of 2016.
By this time, most of Drowned's memories from Ben and Max had returned, and he was able to speak much more clearly. He was able to help the players save his brother SKM from being used as Tenebris's host body. Unfortunately, Drowned himself could not be saved, and he was once again used as Tenebris's conduit. Throughout The Truth Arc, Max was still present within Drowned, and therefore, Tenebris. However, at some point after this - perhaps from the effects of the Kill Switch, Ben and Max's spirits were separated. Eventually, SKM reunited with Max properly, though the latter was still just an ascended spirit.
In 2018, SKM presumably placed Max's spirit into Tyler's bullet necklace for unknown reasons. Since then, a strange YouTube channel that is seemingly controlled by Max has appeared - Quiet Family. This channel contains a strange assortment of videos that appear sporadically - often unlisted, as Max seems to be somewhat paranoid about its activity. At some point, Max met Erika and the two became friends, with Max seemingly giving Erika footage to use for her various music videos.[1]
Personality
Not much is known about Max's personality, as the players haven't truly had a chance to speak with him directly. Most conversations with Max were done so through the amalgamation of Drowned, which likely influenced his personality in unknown ways. Judging by what SKM has stated about Max, he enjoyed creepy stories, having been an avid user of Within Hurbis before he died.

Dressed up in symbols to mystify and signify the nation of his father as he passed from one sphere to another, keeping the fire burning. Lol spirits in works make weirdo metaphor attempts
He is made darkened by the presence of the fallen nostalgia, a shame because I know he is a sweet kid. His position in that program is how he steals files and youtube stuff to help me with my art actually XD

Astral Max spoke to the players instead of Drowned throughout the Astral Timeline. Astral Max was being hunted down by a malicious version of SKM.[2] He also often used the phrase "Quiet Family".[3]

We never spoke to any "Drowned" person - only Max. If I'm understanding correctly, Drowned was an entity consisting of both Ben and Max, right? Well, for some reason it was just Max for us. He was able to help us into Lunarchildren.com just in time to save Tyler.
