Greth is one of the main protagonists of Johnisdead. Greth was a player during Jadusable's ARG and up through The Truth Arc of Johnisdead. However, during the Astral Arc, Greth's role as a canon character was cemented in 2018 with the creation of Greth Vlogs, where he documented strange occurrences around his new home. Eventually, Greth met Tyler and became entangled the plots of various malicious entities, such as Patrem and BUP, who have both used his body as a host.

Story
Greth was one of the original players who participated in Jadusable's ARG back in 2010. Being one of the first users of the Ocarina, Greth successfully revived Alex after he was slain by Dark Link.[1] Once Jadusable's ARG was placed on hiatus, Greth's presence in the Within Hubris community wavered.
The revival of Youshouldnthavedonethat.net during The Truth Arc in 2016 caught the attention of many classic players. One of these players was Greth, who joined the Internet Detectives Skype group. Greth's involvement in the ARG was going well until July 10th, 2016, when a rouge player impersonating him submitted the "Song of Healing" without approval. This resulted in various arguments between players breaking out, with Greth being blamed for the submission.[2] Despite this drama, Greth remained within the Internet Detectives and continued participating in the ARG.

On July 27th, Greth was one of the three players chosen to partake in the Circle of Three - a special ritual conducted by Jeremy that allowed him to more closely commune with the players. A few days later, some coordinates to a lake in Florida were discovered on Youshouldnthavedonethat.net. Living nearby, Greth decided to drive to these coordinates to search for clues on July 29th. However, Greth never reported back to the players on what he discovered there.
As The Truth Arc came to a close on New Year's Eve of 2016, Greth decided to remain within the Internet Detectives community. In 2018, Greth created a new YouTube channel - Greth Vlogs. These videos began as normal vlogs that Greth used to show the players around his new home. However, players quickly began noticing some oddities within these videos. A strange, white mask could be seen Greth's closet, and Greth began hearing strange sounds within his house. Several entities began making appearances, such as an enigmatic figure wearing an alien mask and a green entity.
In an attempt to escape these hauntings, Greth departed on a hiking trip. Here, he accidentally ran into Tyler, who had teleported in-front of Greth as a result of touching the Detour Sign. As seen in the video A Guest, following this event, Greth and Tyler began hanging out and sharing their findings and experiences regarding the Lunar Children. Unfortunately, Greth's situation only worsened after this event, as he became an insomniac. Fearing for his mental and physical wellbeing, the player Dense submitted the Goron Lullaby. While this was successful in putting Greth to sleep, it came with the reveal that Patrem had been dwelling in his body. Now that Greth was asleep, Patrem was able to control him at will.

Shortly after Greth had fallen under Patrem's control, players discovered a new website - Astralobservatory.net, a site seemingly dedicated to studying various conspiracies and exploring the paranormal. In reality, this site was connected to the Lunar Children and was used to lure in young, vulnerable recruits. Among the recruits were several members who were attempting to infiltrate the Astral Observatory to prevent any future tragedies. Among these members was Moonman, who was later revealed to be a version of Greth from an alternate timeline known as the Astral Timeline. Over the next few years, Moonman would assist the players alongside other members from the Astral Observatory.

In April of 2019, Greth, under Patrem's control, confronted Tyler with a sword, successfully chasing him into the Parallelos via the Detour Sign. At some point after this, Patrem's control over Greth seemed to subside as he fell under the control of another malicious entity - BUP. BUP took control of Greth through another method - Aggregation, since BUP was an amalgamation of various different Greths fused into a layered being. Using Greth's Discord account, BUP began chatting frequently with the players in the Internet Detectives Discord server.
Unfortunately, since Greth has been under the influence of either BUP or Patrem since 2018, he has not been able to contact the players for several years - the few exceptions being when BUP occasionally allows Greth to speak to further his own plans.[3] The first case of this happening was in October 29th, 2019 when Greth was seemingly speaking to the players from the year 2016 just as he was about to travel to the lake coordinates. The second instance of this was when Greth once again briefly began uploading vlogs as though nothing had happened. While players tried to probe him for information, Greth's memory seemed to have been tampered with, as he was unable to recall anything regarding Patrem or BUP. During one of Greth's livestreams, he was forcefully re-possessed by BUP.
Personality
Greth is a very friendly individual, often referring to the players as true friends and holding them in high regard. He is also a bit silly, as seen in several quirky moments within his vlogs. However, for the majority of Johnisdead, Greth has been a tired and frustrated individual, having to deal with the constant influences of BUP and Patrem.

Astral Greth goes by the username Moonman and is one of the surviving members of the Astral Internet Detectives. He infiltrated the Astral Observatory alongside José and IsocelesAssassin in an attempt to uncover Nocta's involvement with the deaths of their friends.
Fucked Greth varies enough from this incarnation of Greth to warrant their own page - BUP.
Fucked Greth poured his heart into studying the paranormal and founded the Astral Observatory in his timeline under the name "Nocta". After years of preparation, he successfully ascended himself into the being known as BUP in order to avoid his timeline's doomed fate.
