BUP's DnD Game refers to a Dungeons and Dragons campaign hosted by BUP in 2020. This campaign was a canon event that intertwined with various other storylines and featured heavy player involvement. It was played through the John Discord Server with the help of a Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) related Discord bot.
Summary
On January 17th, 2020, BUP challenged the players to a game. He proceeded to ask the player Slinky several strange questions - the answers of which led to the creation of Slinky's player character, Sam the Genasi. After this, BUP linked the players to a new Discord Server simply named John.
Session 1
As the game began, Slinky's character Sam was introduced as a Luna occultist exploring Ruskunne. Sam quickly died due to inhaling some dangerous toxic fog. BUP revealed every time a player character died in the story, one of the Timeline Arcs found on the Johnisdead Wiki would be deleted. This was contextualized within the DnD game as a curse that was placed upon Sam's people's library which was perpetually burning.
Sam enters a market. Here, it's revealed that Sam is on a quest given to him by "The Father". He encounters a jester who asks if he'd like to hear a riddle or a ruse. Sam chooses riddle, resulting in a psychedelic sequence where the jester gives him a riddle. Sam correctly answers with "A map", resulting in the jester breaking the fourth wall and acknowledging the player Slinky. He also rips off his face, revealing another face beneath. After this, a vertical line is carved into Sam's arm, inflicting him with damage each turn during combat.
Sam enters a nearby temple belonging to an order called the Inquisitorius Penitus. Here, it's revealed that Sam is a member of an opposing group known as the Lunar Children. Despite this, Sam takes respite in the temple. Here, he meets Greth of Ruskunne - a version of Greth that acts as a priest of sorts for the Inquisitorius Penitus. Greth proceeds to give Sam a tour of the temple - mainly various relief shrines that depict the order's history.
The first relief shrine originally depicted the group's creation. Unfortunately, it had been destroyed long ago by an unknown assailant. The next shrine depicted an era that Greth was familiar with - one in which the group fought against the Lunar Children. During this era, the founding member of the Inquisitorius Penitus was quiet important and the overall focus of the group's efforts. The next shrine depicted the aforementioned founding member of the Inquisitorius Penitus being captured. The final shrine depicted an ancient castle - one that held various spirits. The Inquisitorius Penitus supposedly wished to reclaim this castle.
Greth explained that the Inquisitorius Penitus opposes the Lunar Children because of the ever-present threat of the Calamity of Luna - an event that threatens to destroy the world. Sam is led to a room within the temple and goes to sleep. Here, he experiences a dream featuring the Elegy Statue and gains another cut in his arm. Upon waking up, Sam finds himself in a dense forest. He now has a purple crescent-shaped medallion that allows the player Slinky to swap out with another player. Sam hears a scream and is led to a lake. Here, he's almost pulled underwater by an unknown entity. As he flees from the lake, one of the cuts on his arm begins to close. When he returns to the lake, it re-opens.
Sam is then attacked by a creature simply called "??". Sam manages to defeat it, though this only results in it transforming into a black sludge-like substance. As the sludge takes over his body, the "??" creature morphs into a man with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a goatee.
Sam awakens from yet another dream. He's now a student about to leave for highschool. Upon boarding a school bus, Sam sees that Tyler sits at the front whereas Erik sits at the back. He also discovers that he has necklace in his pocket - this one is colored green and similar to the medallion. Sam attempts to sit next to Erik but is unable to spark up conversation with him. He checks his phone and finds a text from YUGIMOTO asking about a package. Reality starts to break down as Sam begins hearing messages sent in the Discord server in his head. Sam is suddenly attacked by an unknown enemy as his necklace begins vibrating.
Sam is warped to the Astral Observatory. Here, he discovers three different Dream Bubbles - each containing the three different worlds or dreams that he had just experienced. It seems as though the Astral Observatory was acting as a hub-world as sorts. Sam hears Yuukichan speak in the distance before accidentally entering into another Dream Bubble. This one takes him to a dark forest near a highway.
At this point, the player Slinky has to leave. BUP allows the player Xenquility to create his own character and take over. Xenquility is asked several strange questions like Slinky was, resulting in the creation of the character Max. The session starts up once again. Max is in Ruskunne, though now in a land that seems devout to Luna. He enters a town and meets Innsman Greth - a version of Greth that runs an inn. Innsman Greth warns Max that a dangerous fog is about to roll into town. He also warns that the Inquisitorius Penitus, also known as "I D of ----------", will soon be attacking.
Max leaves the inn and is attacked by "???" - an entity made of void with glowing eyes and a pointed hood. Yuukichan appears across the street and tells the players to find the "idol". Max damages "???", causing its head to split in two. "???" then does a special move that causes the ground to break open. However, Max manages to escape.
Session 2
The second session began a few days later on January 20th. BUP asked the players if they wished to continue the game. After saying yes, Yuukichan briefly spoke to the players, telling them about a pathway and a statue. She told them that they must find the dream that resides within her. The game is suddenly paused as BUP asks the players if they wish to "Deliver the package". Wolfcat repeatedly answers no. BUP then asks if the players would like to break the cycle. Upon answering yes, their player character obtains a Silver Raven Figurine.
The game recommences with the player Xenquility once again taking on the role of Max. Max is once again in a foggy field in Ruskunne. However, they quickly realize that the Silver Raven Figurine possesses a rune that's keeping the dangerous fog at bay. This rune is shaped like an Amiibo symbol. Max spots a human-shaped figure in the fog but is unable to approach them before they repeatedly disperse. An entity named "?" warns Max that they are far away from where they began. "?" then tells Max to bring "it" out of here, warning that many "seek your prize".
Max's surroundings suddenly darken. They begin hearing mysterious sounds in the distance and spot the silhouette of a child. Two glowing eyes appear on the child as Max presumably dies. Xenquility chooses to use the Silver Raven Statue to save himself. Yuuki asks if he's sure. Before he can answer, a raven-shaped light exits the figurine and enters into Max's body, forcing out the child-shaped entity, implying that the child-shaped entity was attempting to possess Max. The figurine falls to the ground and absorbs the nearby darkness, infecting it. Regardless, Max is saved and BUP informs the players that the cycle has been restored.
Session 3
On January 22nd, the third session began. The players were asked if they wished to continue the game. Upon answering yes, they were asked why. The player Xenquility said that they hoped to obtain some answers. The individual asking the question claims that they don't have any answers - they only know what they're destined to know. They introduce themselves as Munnin - the Silver Raven Statue. Munnin has become corrupted due to the darkness absorbed into the figurine in the previous session. Xenquility apologizes for this but Munnin tells them not to worry and instead focus on the future.
Munnin tells the players that they must follow Yuukichan and keep her safe. They warn that various entities are hunting her down and that her shrine must be brought to the players' world. When asked if this poses and danger, Munnin claims that it's only dangerous to whoever carries the shrine. Also, the players will require a special tool to unlock the shrine - something connected to the Amiibo-shaped rune.
Munnin warns the players that the stories and scenes witnessed within the DnD sessions are not "truth" - they are just memories, reflections, and dreams of those who "haunt these realms". Munnin explains that their sole purpose is to protect Yuukichan and that they themselves are the goal and prize of the DnD Sessions. They explain that the DnD sessions as a whole are a "test" by BUP.
