Sam the Genasi is the player-character used by the player Slinky during BUP's Dungeons and Dragons game. The character Sam was abandoned fairly early on due to the player Slinky being unavailable to participate in the later Dungeons and Dragons game sessions, being replaced by Flint and Max controlled by the players otherLiam and Xenquility respectively.

Story

Sam is not a traditional character within Johnisdead. He is actually a character created by the player Slinky on January 17th, 2020 that was used to take part in BUP's Dungeons and Dragons game. Sam was introduced as a cultist who worships Luna in the outskirts of Ruskunne. Sam is revealed to be on a secret mission given to him by his cult's leader known simply as "Father". His mission is to seek out a girl - presumably Yuukichan. A strange fog begins rolling across the land. This fog is revealed to be toxic as it quickly kills Sam. Though Sam is able to return if the players choose to retry, each time he is killed, more of his peoples' library is burned and information is lost. This manifested in the YSHDT Arc timeline on the Old Johnisdead Wiki being deleted.

Upon his revival, Sam manages to escape the fog and enter into the town of Ruskunne. Here, he travels to the market where he encounters The Jester - a mysterious figure who asks Sam a riddle before seemingly breaking the fourth wall and addressing the player Slinky directly. After this, Sam discovered that he was now suffering from a slash on his arm. After this, Sam entered into a nearby temple and met Greth of Ruskunne - the temple's caretaker. Greth of Ruskunne then showed Sam around the temple, explaining that it belongs to an Order known as the "Inquisitorius Penitus" that opposed Sam's cult - the Lunar Children. Greth explained the Order's past, which seemed to mirror that of Within Hubris and the Internet Detectives.

Greth gave Sam a room to sleep in. Once Sam fell asleep, he had a nightmare about BEN. Upon waking up, Sam discovered that he was now in a forest and had a second slash on his arm. As he explored his surroundings, Sam discovered a medallion that gave the player Slinky the ability to change characters if needed. Sam suddenly hears a scream originating from a pond. As he inspects the pond, an arm suddenly grabs his ankles and begins pulling him underwater. Sam manages to escape the entity and reach land, however. As he leaves the vicinity of the pond, the second slash on his arm slowly begins to seal back up.

Sam slowly returns to the pond, resulting in his second slash opening back up. He is then suddenly attacked by a sludge-like entity that is believed to be Tenebris. Sam manages to stab the beast, resulting in the sludge melting away revealing John's face. The face begins laughing and melting as Sam suddenly wakes up - now once again in a new location. Sam is now on his way to school. He also now has three slashes on his arm. Sam boards the school bus where two familiar faces are found - Erik at the back and Tyler at the front.

As Sam checks his pockets, he seems to discover a crescent moon necklace in his possession. He suddenly gets a text message from someone named YUIGMOTO who is asking him about a package. Sam isn't sure what he is talking about, however. Sam then proceeds to sit at the back of the bus next to Erik. Sam attempts to speak to Erik, though he is ignored. When the bus arrives at school, reality begins breaking down around Sam - this seemingly has something to do with YUGIMOTO's package. Sam begins hearing the voices of the players in his head as he is attacked by an unknown entity. Sam then uses the necklace / medallion which warps him to the Astral Observatory - a hub-world of sorts where Sam can enter into the three previous dreams - Ruskunne, the forest lake, and the school bus.

Sam enters into the dream with the forest lake. As he does so, he hears Yuukichan greet him from behind. As Sam explores the forest, he hears the sound of cars in the distance. At this point, Sam's story abruptly ends as the player Slinky had to depart. After this, the player Xenquility began playing using the character Max.

Summary

  • Sam experiences three different worlds in the forms of dreams. The first of these worlds is a fantasy land known as Ruskunne, where Sam a Lunar Child cultist. Sam is quickly killed by some toxic fog, which results in the YSHDT Arc timeline on the Old Johnisdead Wiki being deleted. After being revived, Sam enters into town and meets a Jester, who breaks the fourth wall and gives Sam a slash on his arm. Sam the enters a temple that belongs to a group that mirrors the Internet Detectives. Here, Sam meets the temple's overseer - Greth of Ruskunne. Greth shares the group's history with Sam before giving Sam a place to sleep. Upon waking up, Sam finds himself in strange forest. He also now has a second slash on his arm. Sam discovers a strange pond and is attacked by what seems to be Tenebris. Sam then wakes up again, now headed to school in a more modern environment. Now with a third slash on his arm, Sam boards a school bus where Tyler and Erik can be found. When the bus arrives at school reality begins breaking down around Sam as he is attacked by an unknown entity. Sam then uses a medallion that teleports him to the Astral Observatory - a hub-world. Here, he re-enters the forest lake area. His journey is cut short, however, as the player Slinky suddenly has to depart. After this, the player Xenquility resumes the game with the character Max.
