The Harbingers as depicted on Lunarchildren.com.

The Players are those who participate within the Johnisdead ARG. Their main goal is to assist various characters known as Links in surviving and putting a stop to their adversaries. The Lunar Children know them as the Harbingers - blasphemous individuals who oppose Luna's will. The players' main weapon is the Ocarina - the ability to influence the world of the ARG through submitting various songs, videos, and images from the Legend of Zelda series.

History

The players first began interacting with the story back in 2010 during Ben Drowned after Alex began sharing his experiences with the Haunted Majora's Mask Cartridge. This led to the creation of many various player groups such as the "Bomber Gang Kids". Eventually, the players were led to Within Hubris, where they were able to organize and share information more efficiently. Since little to no activity was taking place around this time, the player groups that sprung up during this period were less focused on solving mysteries and instead more aimed towards general discussion.

Upon the destruction of the original Within Hubris in 2012, the players banded together to create a new incarnation of their forum dubbed "Newbris". In 2015, players joined the Internet Detectives when they were introduced to the existence of the Lunar Children when Johnisdead officially began. Here, they were a much more active hindrance to the cult through the constant use of their Ocarina powers - powers that were at one point stolen away from them by Tenebris. The players were only able to get their powers back with the help of Drowned.

Upon exploring Lunarchildren.com, players learned that the Lunar Children referred to them as the "Harbingers".[1] The cult believed that the players were granted their powers by Luna herself, viewing it as both a power and a curse that will eventually lead to their undoing.[2] There is some truth to this, as misuse of the Ocarina has led to the players endangering their allies and themselves multiple times. Just as well, the Lunar Children also refer to Tyler as the "Harbinger's Link".

Interestingly, the video Regiminis seems to liken both the players and Rosa to Tatl from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - presumably due to their role as a protector or guide to their link.

    • "The site recreation has been rather slow as of late due to the rise in needed meat space activity. Our big star aka the “Harbingers link” has required lots of observation as of late, and we can’t afford for him to take too much note of it. The last child with observation duty (yes we are talking to you Daniel) did a fantastic job leaving the beacon with him. Just as well, the task was also his trial to be worthy of the Parallelos path (We all saw your fantastic use of jumping in the video he decided to show to the harbingers, really good work to be fair XD )."

    • "It was said by father that some joined together against the holy mother. Some chose to try to fight against her. Some had even corrupted the ranks of the misguided (this was vastly the reason for the failings of the misguided, aside from there general misunderstanding of Luna.) Regardless, Luna was amused by this weak and blasphemous collective."
    • "A whisper from Luna to various members established that they, while extremely unholy, are part of her plan. So they were granted a power as well as a curse."
    • "“My control to them.”"
    • "“Bring forth the end.”"
    • "“The dark one shall move among them.”"
    • "(along with said whispers, many reported the number 4 being spoken repeatedly, sometimes even in between words)"
