The Pumpkinhead Gamejack is an event that took place throughout 2019 that involved Pumpkinhead staging a gamejack of Johnisdead. This ruse involved the obfuscation of information on the Johnisdead Wiki and the participation of several players. It was supposedly enacted by Pumpkinhead as an attempt to paint himself as a non-threatening entity that was not canon to Johnisdead.
History
The Pumpkinhead Gamejack subtly began August 23rd, 2019 when certain bits of information were being omitted from the Johnisdead Wiki. During this period, Wolfcat was the main player responsible for keeping the Wiki updated. Since it was later revealed that Pumpkinhead had access to Wolfcat's various accounts, it's likely that this was Pumpkinhead attempting to obfuscate his own presence.
The first information omitted was in relation to the possible ramifications of playing the Inverted Song of Time to restore Astralobservatory.net. GHOSTBABEL warned that doing this might open up dangerous dimensions and allow malicious entities to enter inside. Regardless, the players submitted the Inverted Song of Time, restoring the website. Shortly after this, the player Wolfcat began acting strangely. His avatar changed to a distorted jack-o-lantern from the game Minecraft and he posted the song "Cat" from the same game. Also omitted from the timeline was a mysterious locked announcement titled "Connections" on his website Meatouchers.com. The next day, Moonman explained that when he was saved from Astralobservatory.net, he witnessed an entity that was orange. This was also omitted from the Johnisdead Wiki.
Pumpkinhead omitted Yuukichan's descriptions of him - as well as the players' early conversations with BUP. During this time, Wolfcat's YouTube account was also found leaving cryptic comments on the various songs that Yuukichan would post in the Safehaven Discord Server. On October 26th, the players became more aware of Pumpkinhead's past after chatting with an older player named Scout. At this point, it's likely that Pumpkinhead knew he couldn't keep his presence hidden.
On October 30th, the Pumpkinhead Gamejack properly began. This started off with Pumpkinhead renaming Wolfcat's Discord account "Pumpkinhead" and changing his profile picture to a distorted image of himself. Pumpkinhead began asserting that he was indeed the orange jack-o-lantern entity mentioned by Moonman and Yuukichan. As the tuanted the players, the player Jos joined in as well, believing the entire situation to simply be a joke that the player Wolfcat was playing on the Internet Detectives. This led to the others believing that Pumpkinhead had somehow possessed Jos.
The next day, Pumpkinhead posted the audio "release.mp3". After this, Jos pretended to return to normal, implying that Pumpkinhead had released him from his control. Jos then acted as though he was completely unaware of what was going on. Meanwhile, Pumpkinhead posted many images of Yuukichan, pretending as though he was about to kill her. He also posted the video gaze.webm. Not long after this, the players submitted Wa ke u p in an attempt to free Wolfcat from Pumpkinhead's control. At first, this seemed to work. However, Pumpkinhead quickly revealed that he was still in control of the account.
The next day, Pumpkinhead made several posts directed at the player CircleHunter. On November 2nd, the player CircleHunter joined the player Jos in going along with Pumpkinhead's Gamejack, also believing it to be a simple joke. CircleHunter began pretending as though he was a perpetually burning spirit who spoke in short, cryptic messages - mainly lyrics from Blue Öyster Cult songs. Meanwhile, Jos began pretending as though he was once Yugi and has now become a sadistic, cannibalistic spirit.
Jos once again pretended to be freed from his possession. Pumpkinhead played along with this, pretending to be Wolfcat while speaking with Jos - much to the dismay of the players. This ruse was short-lived, however. Jos returned to acting as though he was a possessed version of Yugi, repeatedly posting the "Bolero of Fire" while the players attempted to counter with their own submissions. Players eventually submitted the video AWAKEN, resulting in CircleHunter pretending to be freed from Pumpkinhead's control as the file "release.mp3" was once again sent. Much like with Jos, CircleHunter pretend as though he was completely unaware of what was going on.
The next day, Pumpkinhead sent the player Slinky a reversed version of "release.mp3". When Slinky posted this song in the Internet Detectives Discord Server, Jos once again pretended to fall under Pumpkinhead's control. On November 4th, Pumpkinhead ponders if "ᛇ"'s hunger has been satisfied. He also claims that he's always been a part of Wolfcat, but Wolfcat has only recently become a part of him. After this, the colors of various players' usernames began changing to orange. The player ARGdov submitted the Sonata of Awakening. Jos used this opportunity to briefly pretend to be Tyler speaking through his account. Shortly after this, Jos fell back under Pumpkinhead's control. On November 7th, the player ARGdov submits the Lens of Truth in an attempt to use it on Pumpkinhead. Instead, its effects are redirected and allow Pumpkinhead to view one of the players' secret chatrooms on Discord, which he begins posting screenshots of.
The Pumpkinhead Gamejack ended on November 9th, 2019 when the IIIII account claimed that Pumpkinhead was not canon and that the entire event was simply the player Wolfcat overstepping his boundaries. This coincided with the upload of funny_joke.mp4. The next day, Pumpkinhead pretended to be Wolfcat apologizing to the players. He uploaded the video pumpkinpology to Wolfcat's YouTube channel. After this, Pumpkinhead was regarded as a non-canon entity until his eventual reveal on April 20th, 2020.
