Spell Circles

The Spell Circle players were asked to draw to combat Hurricane Dorian.

Spell Circles are magical drawings and symbols used in spellcasting. They have been mentioned and utilized several times throughout Johnisdead.

History

Spell Circles were first mentioned on August 30th, 2019 when an entity using Greth's out-of-character account (presumably BUP) asked players to draw some. The Spell Circle requested was one that involved imagery of Helios and its purpose was to redirect or disperse Hurrican Dorian, which was approaching Florida at the time. The next day, Moonman and GHOSTBABEL confirmed that the hurricane was moving away from Florida. Both were surprised to discover that the players used Spell Circles instead of The Ocarina. GHOSTBABEL referred to this as primitivist and "playing the Sun's Song manually".

The Subspace on Astralobservatory.net originally contained a page relating to Greek Mythology and Spell Casting. While the contents of this page had become corrupted before the players were able to access it, it's possible that it contained some information related to Spell Circles. The Subspace also contained four different videos relating to Spell Circles uploaded by Nocta. However, only one of these was viewable and it was heavily corrupted, containing only faint, distorted images of what appeared to be a Spell Circle. On July 6th, 2021, the IIIII account became active in the Internet Detectives Discord Server and sent a few more images of Spell Circles - likely due to Hurricane Elsa nearing Florida around the time.
