Jacob is a character who has been present since the beginning of Johnisdead. Originally appearing as a player during the YSHDT Arc, he was revealed to be a character when he suddenly went missing during the Johnisdead Arc. It was later revealed that he was a friend of Tyler's who went missing in 2009 after joining the Lunar Children. While in the cult, he became a vessel for Patrem and took on the name Vincent Adams, having forgotten his past life due to Patrem's presence. Vincent later returned in 2020 after being separated from Patrem and shared vital information with the players.
Story
Jacob was born sometime during the 1990's in Florida. It is assumed that he had a fairly normal childhood growing up. At some point he met Tyler. The two became friends, often hanging out and talking about various topics such as drug trips. In 2009, Jacob joined the Internet Detectives and partook in the YSHDT Arc as a player. During this arc, the players discovered that their Link, Doug, had just recently joined a cult known as the Lunar Children. Once it was revealed that both Jacob and Doug lived in Florida, Jacob asked if he could be recruited into the cult. He was directed to Doug's friend Mason who had him carry out a series of initiation rituals that involved recording oneself staring at the camera while thinking about one's deepest fears and reciting the cult's oath.
At some point, Jacob was accepted and inducted into the cult. Instead of simply gathering information about the cult to give to the players, Jacob presumably became genuinely interested in their practices. Through carrying out small duties for the Lunar Children and keeping a low, obedient profile, Jacob was able to rise fairly high through the cult's ranks. After being with the Lunar Children for some time, Jacob was later presented with the final test of loyalty within the cult - the option of receiving their experimental brain operation. Despite the fact that this operation would completely change his identity, Jacob went through with it. Once the process was completed, Jacob had forgotten most of his previous life. He now took on a new name - Vincent Adams.
Vincent once again rose through the ranks of the Lunar Children, eventually being given the title of "Overseer". As Overseer, Vincent was present at the Fishery on Undecim Nocte, 2011 - the night of Kevin's ascension. However, the ascension went awry, resulting in Patrem becoming trapped in Vincent's body. This caused Vincent to lose his memories once again, completely forgetting about the Lunar Children. He was also unaware of Patrem's presence inside his body, as Patrem was only able to take control of him whenever he fell asleep. Despite this, side-effects of Patrem's presence were still present, such as insomnia and memory loss.
In 2014, Vincent began a series of sleep deprivation experiments in an attempt to inspire himself to create music. He recorded the results of these experiments and uploaded them to his YouTube channel, Vincent Adams. During this time, Vincent would still occasionally be possessed by Patrem whenever he fell asleep, presumably resulting in Patrem returning to the Lunar Children to carry out cult responsibilities. During this time, Vincent was known as Father Vincent. On March 18th, 2015, Vincent unexpectedly woke up while Patrem was using his body to speak to the players on the Within Hubris Forums. This resulted in the players managing to briefly siphon some information out of him. Unfortately, Vincent was too distraught with the situation and quickly left.
Vincent continued this unaware dualistic life until April 23rd, 2016. On this date, Vincent was suddenly freed from Patrem's control just before the Cataclysm destroyed The Spire. Vincent claims that he immediately ran out of the Spire, but not before witnessing Patrem seemingly being "sucked into something". While Vincent managed to make his way back to his house, he wasn't completely unscathed. Over time, he felt his mind and soul slowly beginning to degrade. This was the result of his body slowly slipping into the Parallelos, where he would go through a horrifying spiritual journey. While in the Parallelos, Vincent passed through a dark, terrifying forest. Though he would occasionally pass by what he believed to be other people, but he would never attempt to communicate with them. One strange side-effect of Vincent's time within the Parallelos was the recovery of his memories - at least to some extent. It seems as though his time within the Parallelos slowly undid the effects of the Lunar Children's experimental brain operation. Vincent also apparently discovered some very reality-breaking information while here, though he has never elaborated on what exactly this was.
After what felt like years and years of walking through the Parallelos, Vincent was mentally exhausted. He sat down next to a tree, which eventually grew around his body. At this point, he had completely given up on escaping and had accepted his fate. Trapped in the tree, he watched as a large storm of darkness with a tendril in the center began to approach him. However, before it reached him, an "Angel" approached him and lifted him up into the air. The "Angel" protected Vincent as the two flew through the Parallelos, where he witnessed many horrific things. Suddenly, Vincent was back in his room, having been saved by the "Angel". Though it felt like he had been in the Parallelos for "eons", the year was only 2020, meaning he was only gone for four years.
Vincent began uploading videos to his YouTube channel once again. These were music videos that detailed his journey through the Parallelos. Players managed to reach out to Vincent in the comment section of these videos, inviting him to the Internet Detectives Discord server. At this point, Vincent was still incredibly paranoid, though he was now much more calm compared to when the players spoke to him in 2015. To quell his paranoia, the players created a separate, isolated chat room where they could speak freely - the Paradigm of Safety Discord Server. Here, Vincent explained many of the Lunar Children's inner workings and his own experiences both with the cult and the Parallelos.
Though he was now in a much better position than before, Vincent was still experiencing some strange oddities. He now seemed to have conflicting memories of his childhood, as if he were able to recall the childhood of two separate people. He described this as though he were two people being merged into a third entity. Vincent continued giving the players valuable information up through late 2020, when he suddenly disappeared. It was around this time that players discovered Vincent's old sleep deprivation experiment videos, which fully confirmed that he was indeed Jacob.
Personality
Jacob is an incredibly troubled individual, having his identity warped multiple times either through experimental brain procedures or via the influence of malicious entities. Before joining the Lunar Children in 2009, he was a fellow player within the Internet Detectives who enjoyed spending time with the others. However, after becoming known as Vincent Adams and having his mind warped via the cult's surgery, he became focused solely on his religious duties. After becoming an unknowing host for Patrem, he lost his memories once again. During this period of time, he was stricken with insomnia and woke up in strange places due to Patrem's presence. This, understandably, resulted in him becoming easily frustrated and constantly tired. After experiencing his horrific journey through the Parallelos, Vincent appeared much more "numb" to everything. Though he still felt fear and paranoia regarding the Lunar Children, he spoke with a much more calm demeanor and complied with the players.
Jacob
Troubled, stolen. Trapped in the forest while the angel workers seek access to his seed. The chemical contained among the residence of the thrice counted eye. He should safe gaurd it but does not. This makes me sad =[
Vincent
A component now being exploited for an attempted ID shell establishment. Don't ask me what that means, but I think the people trying to make that work have or are going to fail. The "aggregate source" was not "awakened enough" I hear. When they wake up I wonder who they will be in the end? I think that part might be obvious for a lot of people by now lol
