John is a key character within Johnisdead. Originally appearing as a player during the YSHDT Arc, his status as a canon character was cemented early into the Johnisdead Arc when it was revealed he had actually been killed years prior on Undecim Nocte 2011. After being killed during Kevin's Ascension, John's spirit was used as a Conduit for Tenebris. In 2016, Kevin managed to approach Tenebris and trade Ben's spirit for John's, meaning John was now being used as Kevin's conduit instead. Despite this, John still manages to briefly contact others and give them bits of information.
Story
John grew up in a two-story house in Florida. Being a short distance away from Tyler, the two eventually met and became friends. At some point, he also became friends with Kevin and Jacob. In 2009, John, Tyler, and Jacob joined the Internet Detectives and began investigating the YSHDT Arc alongside the players.[1] During this time, Tyler would often muse about whether or not the ARG was real and if Doug and Mason existed. John would always shoot these ideas down, never really being one to believe in the supernatural. This would often cause him to butt heads with Kevin, who was a very religious individual.[2]
In 2010, John, Tyler, and Kevin attempted various rituals and ceremonies they found online for fun. One year later on Undecim Nocte 2011, John had somehow gotten involved in Kevin's Ascension into Regiminis, which resulted in him dying in a house fire. Since his death was the result of Kevin's ascension, he had inadvertently become Kevin's Conduit. However, Kevin was unable to properly utilize John as a conduit because John's spirit was quickly stolen by Tenebris, who had just lost his previous conduit Ben on that same night. John's true fate was covered up and blamed on "faulty wiring", as the police were already collaborating with the Lunar Children and his parents were both currently out of the area.[3]
Throughout 2015, John's spirit would occasionally reach out and attempt to contact the players by utilizing phonelines. This allowed him to send players text messages and sometimes speak over Skype. In 2016, Tenebris struck a deal with Regiminis. Tenebris gave Regiminis John's spirit in return for Ben's.[4] Now that Regiminis had his original conduit under his control, his powers had greatly expanded. Despite this, John was still able to occasionally send out messages in an attempt to assist the players.
Personality
In what little footage we've seen of him, John appears to be a fairly relaxed and easy-going individual, enjoying playing games and hanging out with his friends. Being described as 'strictly atheist', he also has a somewhat sarcastic and skeptical side, never really truly entertaining the possibility of paranormal or supernatural occurrences - something that caused him to occasionally butt heads with his religious friend Kevin. This would require Tyler to often play the middle-man between them and deescalate the situation. After he was killed and used as a conduit, his attitude in general understandably became much more dire.
John
The burning one, the one who waits at the end of things to greet my hero. A very dear friend who will always be cherished. What truly started this fire, curiousity or fear of revelation? From fire devils rise to become angels again (ok sorry I know that one was really edgy Im just transcribing the truthes here) But what turns to face my hero. I cannot see his face. That much is too painful to try. He is still waiting.

Summary
- The players discover a page on Johnisdead.com that responds to messages they type over Skype. One of the spirits speaking through this page appears to be John, though it is difficult to discern who is responding at any given time. One of these spirits informs the players that their Ocarina powers will no longer work.
