The story so far...

In the previous section, the players Ocarina powers were seemingly locked away on Within Hubris for later use. Meanwhile, strange activity began taking place on the "M" YouTube channel - likely due to GHOSTBABEL using Helper's Hat. Here, the players witnessed a strange video of what appeared to be the player Circlehunter travelling to the Cellphone Tower from 2009 - not too unlike The Gray Man. Additionally, the players were informed that a second Data Bomb exists.

After some searching, the players discovered the second Data Bomb hidden on Doug's blog - Letschasethemouse. Still having access to The Truth on the Astral Observatory Forums, the player ARGdov posted the Data Bomb within it, corrupting the site and allowing the players to finally enter into the Subspace - much to Pumpkinhead's dismay. The Subspace was heavily distorted. Here, the players found glitched remnants of pages covering a variety of spiritual and supernatural topics - including one that covered AggregationThe process of "linking" to different versions of yourself from alternate timelines. Supposedly, this allows you to travel between these timelines..

The Subspace also contained a File Directory that housed a variety of uploads from different members of the Astral Observatory. While many of these were corrupted and inaccessible, their existence added some more context to Astral Observatory activities throughout 2018. For example, Nocta had initially uploaded some sort of introduction video to the site. Also, various members submitted their own footage of aliens, haunted houses, and others things as well. Strangely, there were also two audio transmissions that Nocta had found and uploaded. These were from someone named SethSeth, or "Mase", was the name of a Lunar Child who infiltrated the Moon Children alongside Kevin - though which timeline this took place in is unknown. who was attempting to contact SKM.

There were some other odd files as well - such as a copy of Greth's "Escape Pt.2This video featured someone driving to a nature trail. It was later renamed to "Joyous Parallelos". Its origin is a mystery." video. Additionally, two of the videos featuring the "Majora's Mask Cartridge" from April 23rd, 2019 were also present - "sacredartifact.mp4" and "guidance.mp4". These were both uploaded by the enigmatic Samuel Charleston, who has still yet to return to the Astral Observatory Forums.

The players also discovered a corrupted chatroom in the Subspace. Though they could not access this chatroom themselves, they were able to discover a variety of old chatlogs hidden within secret pages and distorted files. Some of these chatlogs dated back to before the players had even become aware of the Astral Observatory's existence. Here, they players got to witness Yugi chatting with the other members of the site. Unlike Moonman and IsocelesAssassin, Yugi did not hide the fact that he was once a member of the Astral Internet Detectives. Despite this, he still managed to gain Nocta's trust and was given an important mission - to go back in time and retrieve the Lunar Children servers from the Fishery. It's implied that Yugi was somehow going to be travelling from the Astral Timeline over to the Prime Timeline to do this. Given the fact that "TheArchiveGuy" José possessed the servers in the Prime Timeline, it's possible that Yugi and José are actually the same person.

Other chatlogs revealed more interesting tidbits, such as the fact that NotAHoax had been removed from the Subspace due to him being too obsessed with alien conspiracies and also the implication that Nocta was somehow aware of The Gray Man. The players also discovered a conversation between Astral Wolf and Yuukichan's spirits - presumably from around mid-2019. Here, Astral Wolf confirmed that his spirit had been moved and placed within Astralobservatory.net by Pumpkinhead - while Yuukichan's was placed there by Nocta. She claims that Nocta is conflicted and believes that he's only capable of hurting others.

The players eventually found a page that possessed a timer - one that was counting down to April 23rd, 2020. While waiting for this timer to reach zero, BUP took complete control over Greth's account - revealing just how much influence over Greth. When the timer finally reached zero, the timer transformed into a link to Johnisdead.com, which had been completely expanded and revamped.

Story

On , Johnisdead.com had returned, along with many of its older pages - some of which dated back to 2015. However, most of these returning pages won't be document here unless they contained some sort of change or update. The site's front page was now also different. It now featured a distorted image of "The Paths" within the Parallelos, aptly named "parallelos.gif". The page was now titled "Find your way".

This page also featured a flashing image of the Parallelos symbol - the same one that was found in the Subspace. Clicking on this would link players to a new type of webpage on Johnisdead.com - a "Path Page".

Path Pages all featured the same basic layout - an image of a distorted environment and one of four different audio files. These audio files were all recordings of someone walking near a busy highway:

Progressing through these Path Pages was not done through ciphers or hidden URLs. Instead, the players were expected to click on certain parts of the environment to access the next Path Page. This invoked the feeling of the players actually travelling through the Parallelos and The Paths themselves.

Some of these Path Pages would occasionally split off into secondary "Offshoot Paths" - similar to how previous page Holes in the past would occasionally split into two different Holes. Unlike the "Highway Paths" above, these "Offshoot Paths" all featured an audio file titled "realms.mp3":

Let's go over the main set of Path Pages found on Johnisdead.com as an example.

Notice: For the sake of performance, the images below are low-res and not animated. Click them to view their original animated counterparts. This also applies for other templates covering traditional webpages further down on this page.

As you can see, this main set of Path Pages continues down the distorted Parallelos highway. However, there were two Offshoot Paths that branched off from them. Let's go back up to that Path Page where the first branch could be seen:

This first Offshoot Path was rather small, consisting of only one additional page. However, clicking on the end of this paths' road would link the players to a familiar page - "https://johnisdead.com/tyler". This page was largely the same to how it appeared back in 2015, featuring the iconic "linebusy.mp3" and "operator.webm".

This page also still contained distorted, scrolling text. However, instead of panicked pleas from ascended spirits, the text now all simply read "II". Given this page's heavy focus on Tyler, this could be implying that two lines - "II" - is meant to be representative of Tyler himself... However, there isn't enough evidence to fully confirm this one way or another quite yet.

The other Offshoot Path mentioned above would prove to be far more substantial:

This path led through several varied environments, including some woods, a field, and a wasteland. Ultimately, it led players to a massive temple within the wasteland - specifically the "Spirit Temple" from "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". This was housed on its own page - "https://johnisdead.com/temple/gates". This was the entrance to the "Temple Hole". As a reminder, a "Hole" is a long series of pages linked together through ciphers and puzzles. However, we'll cover the "Temple Hole" later.

One of the Offshoot Paths above featured a strange entity:

This Offshoot Path led to a dark tunnel in the woods - one that eventually led to yet another hole - the "Cavern Hole". Both the Cavern Hole and the Temple Hole would prove to be quite important. However, before we cover them, we should take some time to cover various other changes on Johnisdead.com.

Several old Redirect Pages from 2015 and beyond had returned. However, many of them now acted as miniature Holes in-and-of themselves, possessing hidden secondary pages. However, many of these pages were still rather inconsequential, so they'll be formatted similarly to Redirect Pages below:

As mentioned above, this final page led players to the "Lostinforest Hole" - the original "Hole" from 2015 that led to the players discovering The Four Giants and finding the video "alwayswatchingyou.wmv". As the players retraced their steps through this hole, they noticed that some things had changed. For example, the text "Lost?" was now "Still lost?". Players also found a strange message - presumably from Doug himself, given the "DandP" link that led them here:

Doug

"fakeplace here I am waiting STILL IAWAITSOMEWHEREDEEPER IF YOU FINDME YOU CAN TRY YOU WILL FAIL CLAIM MY MASK"

Doug claims that he's waiting "somewhere deeper" and he challenges the players to find his mask. What exactly he means by this is unknown...

Further exploration led to the players discovering that another page from 2015 had changed - "https://johnisdead.com/where". This page actually contained several hidden layers and branches:

This miniature hole is centered around Patrem and the various different stages of his life - though there isn't much new information to be gleaned from this.

While searching for more updates to older pages, the players discovered that "https://johnisdead.com/fakeworld" now contained text that read "Your old Lens of Truth". Clicking on this text would download a newer version of JanusVR - the same program that the players used back in 2015 to explore 3D webpages. Upon booting this program up, players discovered that the "Fakeworld Janus Room" had indeed returned.

Notice: From this point onwards, the contents of various Janus Rooms will mostly be covered via interactable maps such as the one below. If they are not working on your device, please ensure that you have Javascript enabled for this wiki. Click on various different parts of the environment below to learn more about them.

Notice: Most of these Janus Rooms were later updated. Because of this, the screenshots accompanying these Story Pages may not be fully accurate as they may be of these newer versions - not the older ones. Please keep this in mind if any visual discrepancies arise.

Fakeworld Janus Room

Overall, Fakeworld was still mostly the same to how it appeared back in 2015. Using their newfound tool, the players began searching through the rest of Johnisdead.com. They quickly discovered that the site's front page now featured its own Janus Room - the "Path Janus Room".

Path Janus Room

As the name suggests, this was clearly meant to be representative of The Paths within the Parallelos. Sadly, there was much that could be found here quite yet - all the players could do is walk the paths again and again.

The "Temple Hole" immediately splits in two - one going through the "Halls" and the other going to the "Library". The "Halls" tell the story of someone who wanted to help his friends and the various spirits trapped within Johnisdead.com. Unfortunately, this individual was attacked by a masked individual. The identity of this helpful individual is unknown - though they're now supposedly being held captive within Johnisdead.com by "the slayer of your others", which is presumably referring to whoever is responsible for killing the Astral Internet Detectives.

The players would uncover some more answers over in the other branch of the "Temple Hole" - the "Library". Let's temporarily leave the "Halls" and visit it.

guessing.mp3

These pages seem to be revealing the conversation that was held between Yugi and Nocta - the conversation where Yugi was tasked with retrieving the Lunar Children servers. Here, Nocta specifies that Yugi will do this by travelling back to the year 2016 and taking advantage of the various inter-mingling timelines of that era to enter into an "alternate timestream" - no doubt referring to the Prime Timeline. This was presumably only possible due to Youshouldnthavedonethat.net's return causing various different timelines to briefly intersect during 2016. This adds further evidence to the fact that Yugi may in fact be José - TheArchiveGuy - as it explains how he managed to travel from the Astral Timeline over to the Prime Timeline.

The players could also access two optional pages by entering in different years. Answering "2011" leads to Nocta forbidding Yugi from travelling to that year - no doubt due to the importance and danger of Undecim Nocte. Strangely, answering "2009" results in a rather unusual response from Nocta in which he references some "FOOL" defying him. Supposedly, Nocta would have been able to kill this fool had it not been for "THE DARK ONE AND JO-" - likely referencing Tenebris and John. Sadly, there aren't enough details to discern what exactly Nocta is referring to here...

Regardless, the "2016" page asked another question - where was Yugi being asked to go?

This will I'm sorry I didn't do it he made me do it I was only trying to help but The J".

guessing.mp3

The conversation between Yugi and Nocta continues, with the obvious answer being "The Fishery". Here, Nocta confirms what we already know - Yugi was tasked with retrieving the Lunar Children servers. However, he also reveals the true nature of Yugi's task - to aggregate the websites across the Astral and Prime Timelines. This possibly explains the "Aggregation in progress" message that players were previously greeted with when attempting to access Johnisdead.com. Additionally, it explains how the players are even able to communicate with the Astral Timeline in the first place...

Nocta's message is suddenly cut off - possibly by Yugi himself. Yugi claims that he was initially attempting to betray Nocta and help the players - just like how he and IsocelesAssassin planned. However, he was presumably discovered by an unknown individual and forced to complete the aggregation. Unfortunately, we don't know the identity of this individual - Yugi simply refers to them as "The J-", before being cut off.

Given the fact that Yugi never returned from his mission, it's likely that this "J" individual killed, ascended, or trapped him somewhere... Because of this, the players began speculating that "Yugi" is actually the same individual that the spirits in the "Hall" branch of the "Temple Hole" are referring to - the individual who attempted to help them before being attacked and trapped within Johnisdead.com. This is all very likely...

The two other answers to this question also have some interesting results. Nocta claims that The Spire had been completely removed from the Overworld by late-2016 - no doubt due to The Cataclysm that took place earlier that year in April. This lines up with Hope's journals, where she claimed that The Spire was seemingly completely non-existent at times. Nocta also claims that The Orchard has been completely useless and irrelevant ever since Mat killed off the Moon Children. However, while saying this, another voice suddenly takes over. This voice expresses regret and sorrow over their lost friends... Who exactly this voice belongs to and why it's speaking here is a mystery.

This concludes the "Library" branch of the hole. Now, let's hop back over to the "Halls" branch where we left off earlier:

The "Halls" branch split off into three separate pages. The first of these seemed to be centered around the individual who killed the Astral Internet Detectives - same person who's currently holding Yugi captive. While the identity of this individual isn't revealed, this page presumably features a heavily distorted photo of them...

The other page centers around Mason. Interestingly, it references the strange "Eight of Clubs" card that The Gray Man gave him in exchange for Helper's Hat back in 2009... This page seems to suggest that The Gray Man was originally given this card by someone else - possibly by the same individual who killed the Astral Internet Detectives. The significance of this card is still unknown, however.

This page also refers to Mason as "Mase". As a reminder, "Mase" was a nickname used by Seth - the Lunar Child who infiltrated the Moon Children alongside Kevin in 2010 in an alternate timeline. Considering the fact that Mason presumably drowned in 2009 in the Prime Timeline, we can assume that the version of Mason that the players are familiar with is NOT the same Mason who infiltrated the Moon Children a year later in 2010. The movements, motivations, and circumstances surrounding this alternate "Seth" Mason are still very mysterious... For the time being, all that's known is that this is a version of Mason from a different timeline who's supposedly attempting to contact SKM - as seen in the transmissions found in the Subspace.

The middle page above also split off into several other pages:

prison.mp3

These pages were centered around the three Astral Internet Detectives who survived. They also reveal quite a bit of new information.

First, the page focusing on IsocelesAssassin seems to contain a distorted frame from the video "N" - the same video that featured what appeared to be the player Circlehunter travelling to the Cellphone Tower. This assumption was partially correct - the individual seen in "N" was actually Circlehunter's Astral counterpart - IsocelesAssassin. This page's audio file and title add further context - "Gray" - as in "The Gray Man". This heavily implies that IsocelesAssassin is indeed "The Gray Man".

It's being implied that IsocelesAssassin also used The Ocarina to travel back in time - just like Yugi. This would explain his absence from late-2018 to mid-2019. It would also explain the various implications that he had been temporally displaced for a while... Regardless, instead of travelling to 2016 like Yugi, IsocelesAssassin presumably travelled back to 2009 and became The Gray Man. This explains how The Gray Man possessed both Ocarina powers and various similarities to the player Circlehunter.

While this finally explains the origins of The Gray Man, it also raises several other mysteries...

  1. What was IsocelesAssassin doing with the Cellphone Tower?
  2. What was the strange device he left for SKM to find in 2014?
  3. How was IsocelesAssassin able to communicate with the players in the Prime Timeline prior to YSHDT.net's return?
  4. What significance does "Dead One" have - the alternate, deceased version of IsocelesAssassin found in the Subspace?

Strangely, "Dead One" also seems to be referenced on this page - specifically in regards to how an alternate version of IsocelesAssassin presumably died after travelling back in time. The IsocelesAssassin that the players have been communicating with is confirmed to be alive, so the origin of "Dead One" is still unknown. Unfortunately, the players would have to wait to eventually re-contact their allies before finding any answers to these questions...

Yugi's page also contains several important pieces of information. Firstly, the image used for Yugi is undoubtedly the player Jos, confirming that Yugi is indeed the Astral Timeline counterpart of Jos. Additionally, the following pages fully confirmed that Yugi is indeed José - TheArchiveGuy. This means that José's timeline goes something like this:

Summary: José - also known as Yugi - survives the murder of the Astral Internet Detectives alongside Moonman and IsocelesAssassin. The three join the Astral Observatory to presumably investigate Nocta. José eventually gains Nocta's trust and is given a special mission to go back in time, travel to the Prime Timeline, retrieve the Lunar Children servers, and aggregate the websites across the two timelines.

José informs IsocelesAssassin of this and the two decide to use this as an opportunity to undermine Nocta. José goes back in time as planned and successfully enters into the Prime Timeline in late-2016. In early 2018, José retrieves the Lunar Children servers and briefly contacts both the players and Tyler as "TheArchiveGuy". José attempts to assist the spirits within Johnisdead.com but he's eventually discovered by an unknown masked individual simply known as "The J-".

José's spirit is presumably trapped inside Johnisdead.com as punishment. He is now being held captive by the same individual who killed the other Astral Internet Detectives.

The final page discovered by the players seems to be a prison - the same prison where José's spirit was presumably being held. Unfortunately, they were unable to get inside... However, they were given a clue in the form of a keyword - "Violet". Unable to progress any further into the "Temple Hole", the players instead turned their attention towards the "Cavern Hole" - the other hole found within the Path Pages earlier.

The "Cavern Hole" split into two separate branches. The first led down a narrow tunnel that opened into a large underground lake - one that ultimately ended up being impassable thanks to a powerful whirlpool. Unfortunately, this ended up being a dead end for the players. Regardless, this branch featured some interesting dialogue...

NO, I am being serious. I can't remember if I threw him in the lake or just threw him in a hole in front of it. I almost remember it like I did both. Those parts of the story don't matter anymore, what matters is what the next step made me realize. After It sent him to knock on my door. I woke up, and now I finally see what the important parts of the story are in the grand scheme. I can see the entire story. I know what to do with it now. It's all just-

This text seems to be Mat recounting the events that took place in 2010 - namely how he disposed of Hank's body. Strangely, Mat can't remember if he buried Hank in-front of the lake or tossed his body into it. Instead, both seem to be true at the same time. Afterwards, Hank's body - now the transcended Kelbris - was sent by Tenebris to knock on Mat's door. As we all know, this ultimately led to Mat somehow being infused with Tenebris's will, resulting in him killing off most of the other Moon Children.

Mat adds onto this, however. He claims that when he woke up afterwards, he could "See what the important parts of the story are in the grand scheme" - almost as though he had undergone some sort of enlightenment. He claims that he could "See the entire story" and knew what he had to do now. Sadly, the true nature of Mat's epiphany isn't revealed here.

The other branch seemingly led to yet another dead end as the players were faced with an image of distorted murals. However, this page did have one clue to go off of - ciphered text that read "/ejrpvjoerk". This was clearly a ciphered URL. However, running it through different Caesar Ciphers didn't seem to work - it was keyed... However, players quickly realized that they in-fact received a key back at the end of the "Temple Hole" - "VIOLET". By entering in this key, the players managed to solve the cipher - "/entranceto" - leading them further down the hole...

The players had indeed managed to find a way into José's prison. Unfortunately, his spirit was no longer there. Instead, it had presumably been moved somewhere else - presumably by whatever entity killed the Astral Internet Detectives - José's current captor. However, José did manage to leave a message for the players:

I dont have much time to talk. he is coming for me, the one who killed all the other detectives. he is angry i escaped i think. This website is a monster. I tried for months to map it and discover its secrets, but it did something to me and now i cant even tell whats real anymore. its connected to those parallelos the cult spoke about. i think its a window or a gateway into them, but i cant be sure. its not fucking normal i know that much. i can feel him getting lcoser im sorry i cant do more for you friends. i will try to activate my scripts soon they will help you dive deeper into the site and find t-

It seems that after obtaining the Lunar Children servers, José attempted to map out Johnisdead.com. Unfortunately, something happened and he could no longer discern what was real or not. He eventually became trapped within the website itself - presumably due to the aforementioned masked "The J-" individual. José claims that he's going to attempt to activate some sort of scripts that he's set in place on the site to help the players access more of it.

It's worth noting that the page containing this message was accessed by clicking on a "Ten of Clubs" card. This is now the third instance of a playing card coming into play:

  • Eight of Clubs - Left by the Astral Internet Detective's murderer for The Gray Man. Later traded to Mason in exchange for Helper's Hat.
  • Nine of Clubs - Left in Astral Wolf's seat in the Dungeons & Dragons game.
  • Ten of Clubs - Left by the Astral Internet Detective's murderer in José's empty prison cell.

Each of these playing cards seems to be associated with a member of the Astral Internet Detectives - presumably left as "calling cards" by their murderer... While the identity of this murderer is still a mystery, it seems as though they have a strong association with playing cards - a possible clue towards their identity.

Though the players had successfully managed to complete both the "Temple Hole" and the "Cavern Hole", it seems as though José's spirit was still out of reach... However, they managed to uncover some valuable information during their journey.

You expect to be given answers but you do not work hard for them.

You want to be given it all.

Then perhaps you deserve nothing

your reward for insolence

You probably thought that was a joke

But I did in fact delete that video.

Have fun knowing that piece of information is gone.

Forever.

Annoyed with the response from several players, BUP decided to delete a previously unseen video on the Greth Vlogs YouTube channel. He then threatens to lock Johnisdead.com if the players continue to displease him - something that would undo all of their hard work... In response, several players banded together to create a secret group - the "Alliance Against BUP" Discord server. Together, they began formulating a plot to capture BUP. In the meantime, a video was suddenly uploaded to Kaiden's YouTube channel - "kaiden_abridged_2.mp4".

This video begins with the same title card from Kaiden's previous video, reading:

Adventures of KAIDEN ZOROMICHI ABRIDGED Part 2".

Kaiden fades on screen and begins speaking.

Kaiden: "Truly this world is cursed. Lost, for I am, without sweet Yuuki. It was my own hubris that brought this cursed fate to me. My own poor decisions. I should have known. I should have realized what it meant to be one of them, but now I am the very one responsible for my life without her. Perhaps it is in the Internet Detectives that I-"

The video suddenly begins corrupting. A distorted version of BUP's avatar is shown.

The word "control" flashes on screen, followed by loud, distorted footage of Greth.

Summary

  • This video is a continuation of Kaiden's roleplaying adventures.
  • Kaiden ponders if he should join the Internet Detectives before BUP takes control of the video.
  • BUP leaves a threatening message for the players, Kaiden, and presumably Greth as well.

This video starts off as a continuation of Kaiden's roleplay adventures. Here, Kaiden can be seen questioning whether or not he should join forces with the Internet Detectives... However, before he can come to a decision, the video's suddenly hijacked by BUP. BUP cryptically taunts the players and showcases footage of Greth, urging someone to stop thinking and allow their nature to take control - possibly in reference to BUP's presence within Greth.

On , a new video was uploaded to Silentdork - "FINALKRIEGKOMMEND", which roughly translates to "FINAL WAR COMING".

This video begins with footage of the page "https://astralobservatory.net/subspace/inner/open-index/gate". Pumpkinhead begins speaking using Minecraft text.

Pumpkinhead: "You've broken the final seal."

The video corrupts and shows footage of a dark library in what appears to be a yet unseen Janus room.

Pumpkinhead: "The realms beyond are spilling out."
Pumpkinhead: "They are reaching for you."
Pumpkinhead: "But... Will you be able to save your link in time?"

Distorted footage of the "Path" Janus room begins playing.

Pumpkinhead: "Or will you become lost in the endless abyss with him?"

Footage of a long, dark hallway in a Janus room begins playing.

Pumpkinhead: "I'll be searching for my mask."

Footage of a dark room in a Janus map is shown. A dark figure moves across the room.

Pumpkinhead: "Don't keep me waiting."
Pumpkinhead: "OR I'LL TAKE ANOTHER"

Summary

  • This video seems to be a message from Pumpkinhead.
  • Pumpkinhead taunts the players, doubting that they'll be able to rescue Tyler from the Parallelos.
  • Pumpkinhead claims that he's currently searching for his mask - Astral Wolf.
  • Pumpkinhead threatens to take another spirit as his mask.

This video features a threatening message from Pumpkinhead. Though the players managed to outplay him a few days prior, he's still taunting them, doubting that they'll be able to rescue Tyler from the Parallelos. He also claims that he's still searching for Astral Wolf. However, if he's unable to locate him, then Pumpkinhead implies that he might take a different spirit to use as a mask instead... Interestingly, this video also showcased several other 3D environments that had yet to be seen - such as long, dakr hallways and cramped rooms with a dark entity roaming around... This implies that there's more Janus rooms that the players have yet to discover.

Back on Discord, the players reacted as expected to this upload.

Afterwards, strange activity began taking place on JanusVR. First, a massive entity named "Deadman" appeared. As the name suggested, this entity used a textureless model of a "ReDead" enemy as it slowly slumped across the "Path" Janus Room.

Around this same time, another entity appeared - "Fascie". This name was an obvious reference to the "Absque Fascie". However, it could also be a reference to Tenebris himself. This was strengthened by the fact that this entity took on the appearance of a monochrome gas mask-wearing creature:

As the players observed Fascie, they followed him into the "Fakeworld" Janus Room. Here, they discovered that Fakeworld had actually updated, now featuring a new location in the lakebed area:

Fakeworld Janus Room

The players followed Fascie down to the new cavern in Fakeworld's lakebed. Here, they found a portal to a new webpage - "https://johnisdead.com/under". While this page appeared to be blank, its code hid another Janus room - the "Under" Janus Room.
