The story so far...
In the previous section, Doug was kidnapped by his cult. This was accompanied by the discovery of Doug's notes, which contained esoteric ramblings about Luna that were reminiscent of Kelbris's descent into madness. Thankfully, the players gained a new ally - Mason, a fellow cultist who had become concerned about his friend Doug. Following the players' advice, he began advancing on the Fishery in an attempt to locate Doug. Hoping to aid him, the players summoned Helper and sent him towards the Fishery as well. Unfortunately, Helper was spotted and promptly killed, causing Mason to flee.
Thankfully, the players were able to revive Helper. However, he was now without a body and was speaking to the players as a disembodied spirit. He was also now missing his hat - a magical artifact that granted whoever wore it the title of "Messenger", bestowing them with the ability to send messages across time and space. Helper's Hat also granted one access to Helper's various accounts - specifically his Within Hubris account and a mysterious YouTube channel simply titled "M". Based off of some cryptic videos found on this YouTube channel, the players deduced that Mason was the one currently in possession of Helper's Hat.
Back on Within Hubris, Patrem taunted the players, revealing that not only could he read their private conversations on Skype but also that he was unaffected by their Ocarina powers. He also revealed that Vincent is the cultist whose body he's currently trapped within. New pages on YSHDT.com only made the situation more dire as they contained a threatening message from a modern-day version of Doug, implying that whatever happened to him when he was kidnapped in 2009 turned him against both the players and Mason. Thankfully, after many days of silence, Mason finally returned to the players with an update...

On March 17th, 2015, Mason posted the following on Letschasethemouse:
3/17/15 - It's been a while
Sorry I’ve blown you guys off. I’m really out of it now, especially after I couldn’t even see Doug. This week has been crazy, too. I’ve met some new friends, have been waking up earlier than usual, have been finding myself in places that I’ve never seen before, and finally met a really odd person that claimed to be from the future.
It’s been a rough week and a half.
Despite his absence, it seems Mason's encountered many oddities during the past week.
A person from the future? that's crazy! What did he look like? or act like? it sounds like an interesting character
He was dressed in all grey. I couldn't make out what he looked like. He came and wanted to trade me for an item.
Trade? People still do that?? What did he offer or want? It must have been a funny experience
He wanted a hat I'd found at the fishery for a card. He said the card would be very important in the future for me.
I didn't want the hat anyways; it had blood on it.
Interesting... Funny enough, i have a tendency for card collecting, if possible, may i see whatever card he gave you? Im really interested in collecting them little "trinkets" ^^

No, there isn't anything special about the card that I can tell of. I would give you a picture, but my phone/camera is currently dead.
Mason claims he met someone from the future. Because this mysterious figure was dressed in all gray, the players began calling him The Gray Man. The Gray Man took interest in Helper's Hat, which Mason confirms he retrieved a week prior when he was at the Fishery. In exchange for Helper's Hat, the Gray Man gave Mason an "Eight of Clubs" playing card. Though the Gray Man implied that the card held some importance, it seemed to be a regular playing card.

I have no idea. One second I'm walking down the street, the next I'm just by some park's statue...
Huh. Was it somewhere you recognized, like do you remember what the statue looked like? Cause if not, it could be a bit serious.
The statue was just some abstract sculpture. Also, I did say I've never seen that place before.

Later in the day, the player Kidpichu sent Patrem a PM on Within Hubris jokingly asking for a bedtime story. To everyone's surprise, Patrem obliged...
Yes child, sleep is a very important thing for your kind. So I shall tell you the tail of another who also has trouble sleeping. There once was a child who was quite curious, he was surrounded by children and yet, it was not enough for him. So he sought the company of others. Through trials and tribulations he found sanctuary in their communion, however he lost sight of the other children, his own name and even his self. But his new family loved him very much, so his father decided to give him a name. Vincent, and before he knew it he was a very responsible man. He was to oversee all of the children in his father’s home when his father was away. However one night, father saw that one of his children had become quite grand. This child was to come and see his father so that he might be told the secrets that only father may know. But two terrible children, who must not be spoken of, one flying, one simply screaming, had come and interfered. Luckily the grand child had still done what was needed on that night, but their father was displaced. He was hurt, that children would fuss in such a time of glory. But Vincent was a good boy, he gave his father refuge. But the event was much to bare, and Vincent had forgotten once again who his family truly was. This all kept Vincent awake, always awake, and his father can do no work, if Vincent is always awake and crying as though he is still simply another child. Now you must rest, for sleep is a very important thing for your kind. I may be able to go on without such a time wasting practice, but neither you nor Vincent can.
Patrem's bedtime story seems to be telling the tale of Vincent - the cultist whose body he's currently trapped within. Upon joining the cult, Vincent lost his memories and his identity, implying that "Vincent" is not his original name. Over time, Vincent became a very prominent member of the cult - so much so that Patrem allowed him to oversee the cult in his absence. This implies that Vincent held the rank of "Overseer" - a title Patrem briefly alluded to in the past.
Eventually, Patrem noticed that one of the other cultists was also becoming very promising, describing them as "quite grand". On the night that Patrem was to pass down knowledge to this "Grand Child", two figures appeared - one who was screaming and one who was flying. Somehow, this hurt Patrem, resulting in him becoming trapped within Vincent's body. This event was likely the ritual that went terribly awry that Patrem mentioned previously. He also claims that this event led to Vincent losing his memories once again, implying that he's completely unaware of both the cult and Patrem's presence within his body.
Based off of Patrem's constant references to Vincent and sleeping, the players began theorizing that Patrem could only control Vincent's body when Vincent was asleep. The fact that Patrem's choice of story for a "bedtime story" is that of Vincent's only further supported this theory.
Shortly after this, the player Tyler posted two audio files that were mocking Patrem's various audio distortions. This led to a response from Patrem the next day on "March 18th, 2015.

Something about it felt nostalgic, I then quickly realized it was not I who felt it but my flesh.
They are simply playing now, as children do. I however am the one preparing, so that things may be a bit more favorable in that time.

Patrem posts a distorted audio file that contained a snippet of Tyler's recording. When asked why this was, Patrem claims that it somehow ignited a feeling of nostalgia within Vincent. Also, when asked what the cultists are up to at the Fishery, Patrem simply explains that they are preparing for something. Meanwhile, back in the Internet Detectives Skype group, the players discuss the possibility of submitting the "Goron Lullaby" to put Vincent to sleep, allowing Patrem to speak more. Peering into the players' chat room, Patrem responds to this:

Patrem confirms the players' theory that he controls Vincent's body when Vincent is asleep, noting that Vincent is currently sleeping in an unfamiliar location despite the fact that Patrem is active. Afterwards, the player Mugen Kagemaru approaches Patrem with an odd question, asking if he knows anyone by the name "Valoron Lyro", noting that this individual claimed to have killed him in the past. Patrem dismisses this question, claiming to not know this individual and that he cannot die.
Back in the Internet Detectives Skype group, the players begin discussing the imposing building they found on YSHDT.com - the one that they've since dubbed "The Spire". The players debate whether or not they should ask Patrem about The Spire, eliciting the following response back on Within Hubris:

Still curious about the reference to "Azure Rebirth", players ask Patrem if he has any connection to the color azure. He says no. After this, Vincent begins to awaken, meaning that Patrem will soon lose control of his body. Before he disappears, Patrem confirms that Vincent and Doug are two separate people - something that the players had been debating behind the scenes.

I'm really confused, I don't know who you are or what this website is. But the last thing I remember is going to sleep in my room, and now it looks like I am in my local park. I am feeling kinda of weird and my head hurts. Who are you people and do you know anything about this?
Vincent awakens, allowing him to regain control of his body. As expected, he seems completely unaware of Patrem's presence and doesn't know who the players are or what Within Hubris is. Vincent claims that he fell asleep in his room and has now awoken in a nearby park.

I have no idea where my phone is, and the lights in the park were all flickering for a few moments when I woke up.
I recall having it in my hand before I fell asleep. I have no idea why I would be in the park but I am about to head home, when I leave the park there will be no wifi until I get back to my house.

My father is dead, I don't have any father figures and I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. I am gonna go before someone steals my shit. Some little kid just walked up to me, like this young kid and just asked me if the "Purple man" is gone now, crying and shit. Fuck this, fuck everything about this, fuck you guys, fuck whoever the purple man is. I am going home now. Fuck this.
Vincent reveals that his father is dead. He also describes some strange happenings in the park he's currently in, claiming that the lights were flickering and that there was a small child fearfully asking about "the purple man" - likely referencing Patrem due to his purple-tinted avatar. Alarmed and confused, Vincent leaves Within Hubris and heads home.
On March 19th, 2015, the player Mugen Kagemaru submitted a strange video titled "KamaroMaskFever.arg", which featured gameplay footage of Majora's Mask featuring Link equipping the "Kamaro Mask" and using it to dance. The purpose of this submission is unknown... However, it quickly took effect regardless:

The submission of the "Kamaro Mask" gave Mason the urge to dance. While players attempt to convince him to either ignore these urges or follow through with them, something begins brewing up above...

Dark clouds have suddenly formed around Mason, resulting in a violent lightning strike nearby. Fearing for his safety, the player Stevey quickly submits the "Song of Soaring" on Within Hubris in an attempt to teleport Mason to safety. Shortly afterwards, Mason posted an update:

For those of you who are going to ask, no, I didn't dance. I noticed that the clouds were forming outside, then a bolt appeared close to me.
I'm a little worried about this.
While it seems as though the "Song of Soaring" hasn't taken effect yet, Mason is still safe, thankfully. While the players were scrambling to organize another submission, a mysterious figure began posting on Within Hubris:

An enigmatic individual uses Helper's account to chide the players for their recklessness. This must be The Gray Man - the time-travelling stranger Mason mentioned previously. Since Mason gave him Helper's Hat, The Gray Man now had access to Helper's account on Within Hubris and the "M" YouTube channel.
By March 20th, 2015, tensions amongst the players had risen. Arguments over what submissions to post and fears regarding the safety of characters were rampant. Above all else, players began calling The Gray Man an arrogant imposter. This resulted in the following response:

The Gray Man once again chides the players and urges the them to set aside their differences and band together. While many of the players were still at odds with one another, this did help diffuse some of the tension.
The next day on March 21st, 2015, a new video was uploaded to the "M" YouTube channel - "E".

This video begins with someone lying down in a wooded area. The cameraman stands up and observes their surroundings. There is a strange tree in-front of them that appears to have been partially cut. The cameraman zooms in on the nearby trees as the video fades to black.
Summary
- This video features someone exploring some woods - presumably The Gray Man.
This video contains footage of someone exploring some woods. Considering the fact that this was uploaded to the "M" YouTube channel, it can be assumed that this individual is The Gray Man. However, the purpose of his travels remains unknown.
Later in the day, something peculiar happened. The Man once again returned to have a brief out-of-character interaction with the players.

Dawn messaged me about a problem a while back.
Wolfcat did something I need to speak to him about.
Strangely, The Man asks to speak to two players privately - Dawn and Wolfcat. He implies that part of the reason for this is because the player Wolfcat "did something" and he needs to speak to him privately about this. Though they were confused, the other players directed these two to The Man.
On March 23rd, 2015, players continued to reflect on The Gray Man's advice and began discussing the possibility of using their Ocarina powers in a more organized and unanimous way. This led to the following response:

I just got back. One second, I was in my house, protecting myself from the storm.
The next, I was next to that fucking statue again.
This is getting ridiculous though. This time it was in a park far, far off from my house. I'm just glad my parents weren't home for the weekend.
But now, I feel like I want to do something. I need to know what happened to Doug. I have no idea how to go about doing something, though. So I want ideas.
I'll add that it seems like the members of the...I guess I should call it a cult, now...haven't noticed that I was the man who spied on them that night. They're sending me messages, and trying to get to me at school, saying that they're worried and that I can always come back to them if I'm in trouble. I'm thinking about taking them up on their offer, to see if I can find anything.
Mason claims that he was teleported to another strange statue, meaning the players' submission of the "Song of Soaring" a few days prior had taken effect. However, upon arriving back home, Mason was filled with a newfound determination to find Doug. He's also finally willing to call his religious group a cult as he becomes more and more opposed to them. Thankfully, the cult doesn't seem to have caught onto this yet as they're sending him concerned messages about his absence.
From Dougs last posts... he joined them, and we never heard from him again... are you sure that'd really be a good idea?
I'm not sure.
Do you have a weapon of sorts? a baseball bat.. or a gun even? if you have to go, dont be a sterotypical horror protagonist and go unarmed... that never ends well.

I can't tell you much more than this for many reasons, partly because I wasn't told a lot about what was going on since I was lower ranked.
Mason describes the cult as being "scientific/religious" - much like how it was described by Doug in his newspaper article. He also claims that its members were promised various magical powers and immortality. However, because he was a lower ranking member, Mason doesn't know much more than this.
Also one more question, though it is a random one. Do you take Psychology? I got a random photo in the mail of some Psychology notes, it freaked me out a bit.

Helper claims that he regained his body at some point, meaning he is no longer simply a disembodied spirit. However, he still lacks his hat, meaning he is currently not considered "supernatural". Regardless, Helper implies that his body was recovered by a member of the cartel. Now that he's awakened back in his own body, he's running jobs for the cartel member who found him - mainly the transportation and smuggling of cocaine, of all things.
Helper also notes that he's currently in Jacksonville, Florida, which he confirms is the same state that Doug, Mason, and their cult reside in - something the players had been speculating for a while.

I have decided on what I'm going to do.
I'm going to go back to the fishery, and make sure to take my blade with me. I won't be able to take any pictures, or post at all while I'm there because it might arouse suspicion.

It's really odd. All of a sudden it started to downpour out of nowhere. I wouldn't be surprised if my basement started flooding.
Mason has decided to set off towards the Fishery to see if Doug is safe. However, on his way there, a storm suddenly begins to manifest. Hoping to summon someone to assist Mason, the player ADULT_LINK submits the "New Wave Bossa Nova". This quickly took effect, resulting in the following update from Mason:

Mason has encountered a mysterious woman standing alone in the rain. In an attempt to quell the storm, the player Sengi submitted the "Song of Storms". This seemed to work, as confirmed by Mason in another update:

The girl said she was sent here through the powers that be, to help me. I don't know what any of that means. I'm going to ask her more now.

Alright.
So, she told me a bunch of bs about how songs can create powers, and she came because some song was played that calls an ally. Totally crazy, but I'm hearing her out anyways.
She says that if I go now, "many pitfalls will be laid in place on your journey, but you will also gain amazing allies in the coming battle". I don't really understand what she means by battle, but I don't like the sound of this.
She also told me to tell you guys specifically that you should trust her, and asked if you wanted your fortunes to be told.
Should I just walk away? This is kinda surreal.
Mason begins speaking to the mysterious girl, who claims to have been summoned by the players. She warns Mason that he will meet both obstacles and allies in the future and offers to read both his and the players' fortunes. This all seems to imply that this mysterious girl is actually Rosa, both due to the fact that she was summoned by the "New Wave Bossa Nova" and her connection to reading fortunes.

The girl confirms that she is indeed Rosa. She also gives the players' a general group fortune where she warns about the arrival of foes both old and new. She also claims that the players have lost some of their powers and that they will no longer be able to achieve their original goal. She refers the players to "that age-old poem" - likely referring to the one found on "http://yshdt.com/notes".

The Gray Man reveals that he possesses the power of the Ocarina as well, submitting a ten hour long version of the "Song of Storms" to continue the downpour.
In the early hours of March 25th, 2015, Rosa joined the Internet Detectives Skype group under the name "OracleRosa" and held a brief interaction with the players:
Hello.
You have already contacted me once already through mason.
I can't spend much longer here. I have my own duties to attend to.
I will only accept one question.
when the time comes for that "dangerous and fateful choice"
what things other than the poem should we keep in mind in making that choice
When the time comes, you must be wary of not only the poem, but whom you trust the most, and whom you hold dear.
You must make a great sacrifice.
Greater than any worldly object, or power.
Only through the poem and these thoughts shall you make it through.
You will make this choice.
I can see it.
I must leave before it happens.
I am in great danger here.
Rosa elaborates on the fateful choice that the players will have to make, claiming that it will involve having to decide who the players trust and what they hold dear. She also implies that it will require a great sacrifice. However, she foresees that the players will make the correct choice. She then leaves, claiming that she'll be in danger if she stays for too long. This entire conversation is archived below:
