Ascension
Ascension is a sacrificial ceremony practiced by both the Moon Children and Lunar Children cults. The main purpose of ascension is to release one's soul or spirit into a higher plane of existence upon their death. While this is often presented as if the ascended individual will gain untold amounts of freedom, more often than not, the ascended individual will become trapped in one way or another. These ascended spirits are often taken advantage of by their respective cults for one reason or another.
Types
There are various different types of ascension.
Devium
Deviums are the lowest rank of ascended beings. These entities are trapped in a perpetual state of torment or uncontrollable emotion. The Lunar Children claim Deviums suffer from Novum Ascensionem, which is implied to entrap these entities and limit their freedom. Portals such as Johnisdead.com are often full of Deviums, which often manifest in the form of distorted sounds and imagery.
Eulogy
Eulogies are the most commonly sought after rank of ascension. Eulogies are capable of a decent degree of freedom and are capable of communicating in a coherent manner. These entities are also able to physically manifest and house themselves within digital devices. The term "Eulogy" was supposedly coined by Mat Hubbard during a speech he made shortly after Ben's death.[1]
Finitor
Finitors are an incredibly rare and powerful form of ascension. Finitors possess the ability to travel through time. In addition to this, Finitors can freely travel through various different layers of the Parallelos - all of them aside from "Luna's Parallelos". Throughout all of Johnisdead, only three individuals have ever become Finitors - Tenebris, Patrem, and Arawn's original self.
Transcended
The Transcended are a unique type of ascension that only four chosen individuals may achieve. The Transcended seem to have a fair degree of freedom and hold unique traits such as emitting a green hue and retaining their original physical forms. In reality, the Transcended are actually the Four Giants - four special individuals chosen by Luna herself to carry out tasks. In reality, it seems as though the Transcended are actually under Tenebris's control. The Transcended are also limited by strange restrictions, such as being unable to enter locations without knocking and being invited in first.
