Shadows refer to a mysterious set amorphous entities. Based on their minimal interactions, they appear to be, in some way, manifestations of the memories Tyler is living through — with it heavily implied they are reliving memories of a convention Tyler attended. As well, conversations with Edwin possibly imply that he was at least a part of this collective before fully manifesting his self.
